Flashdance the Musical is a fast-paced film-to-stage extravaganza about the dance ambitions of a young working-class woman. Based on the Paramount Pictures film by Tom Hedley and Joe Eszerhas, this smash-hit musical celebrates dance as a source of liberation, holding onto dreams and love against all odds.
Set in Pittsburgh USA, 18 year-old Alex Owens works a day-job as an apprentice welder in a failing steel mill, but by night she's a 'flashdancer' in a showbar. Alex dreams of becoming a ballerina and longs to be accepted to the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy. With a bit of help and encouragement from her friends, her meddling mother and her boss' son Nick - posh young man who shows solidarity with the flashdancers and with whom Alex becomes romantically involved - Alex pursues her dreams.
But she was born on the wrong sides of the track, and Dr. Kool, the showbar owner, is tightening his reigns as a newly opened strip club lures his dancers away, adding new challenges to Alex's life. Can she earn a place in the school, allowing her to permanently trade her welder-wear for legwarmers and leotards?
Flashdance the Musical features an iconic score including Maniac, Manhunt, I Love Rock & Roll and the Academy Award winning Flashdance- What a Feeling.
