OPEN AUDITIONS FOR ROLES IN MACBETH

Published : 09/Feb/2017

ARE YOU WICKED ENOUGH TO PERFORM IN MACBETH?

Theatre Severn will make history this spring by creating and producing their first production. William Shakespeares’s MACBETH will be performed in The Walker Theatre  25 – 29 April 2017 and will be directed by the incredibly talented and respected Loveday Ingram. Loveday joins us straight from the Royal Shakespeare Company to bring one of Shakespeare’s most dramatic stories to life. We want to give ambitious, local performers the opportunity to work alongside Loveday, a professional cast and the Theatre Severn team by auditioning for the roles of the witches. Could you be the person we are looking for?

OPEN AUDITIONS FAQ'S

We will be holding open auditions on Tuesday 21 and Monday 27 February 2017 across three session below. Each session will last approximately 2 hours.

  • Tuesday 21 February, 11am
  • Tuesday 21 February, 7pm
  • Monday 27 February, 6.30pm

HOW DO I APPLY?
You do not need to register for an Open Audition. Just turn up at Theatre Severn at one of the session times. A member of staff will be there to greet you and show where you to go.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
Don’t worry, there will not be an ‘X’ marked on the floor or a panel of judges! After a fun workshop to warm up your body and voice we will ask you participate in some exercises to help you channel your inner witch! After this we may ask you to participate in some smaller group exercises with the Director, Loveday Ingram and the Assistant Director, Vicki Duckett.

SHOULD I PREPARE ANYTHING?
No. You do not need to prepare an audition speech.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?
Please bring a copy of recent photograph of yourself that you are happy for us to keep. Please wear clothes and footwear that you can easily move in. Bring something like a book to occupy your time as there may be a little bit of waiting around.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
You. We are looking for you. Shakespeare describes the characters of the witches as 'weird sisters'. These roles have been played by both male and female performers in previous professional productions. With this in mind, we encourage local male and female performers of various ages and abilities to audition. It does not matter if you have not performed Shakespeare before as it is more important to us to find enthusiastic individuals that work well in a team, take direction well and are up for the challenge of performing alongside a professional cast.

Children wishing to audition must be accompanied by an adult. Theatre Severn is a public space and as such we cannot monitor the activities of children that are unaccompanied.

PLEASE NOTE that you need to being living in Shropshire in order to participate in MACBETH.

WHEN WILL I KNOW THE RESULTS OF THE AUDITION?
We aim to let you know whether you are successful in your audition either on the day or the day after.

WHEN WILL REHEARSALS BE?
You will need to be available for evening rehearsals twice a week in the month of April 2017, a few day rehearsals in the week leading up to the performance run. These dates will be confirmed once casting of the witches is completed. The week of the performance you will need to be available for the following:

  • Monday 24 April: day and evening (technical and dress rehearsals)
  • Tuesday 25 April: day and evening (opening night)
  • Wednesday 26 April: 1pm onwards and Evening (matinee and evening performances)
  • Thursday 27 April: 1pm onwards and Evening (matinee and evening performances)
  • Friday 28 April: 6pm onwards
  • Saturday 29 April: 6pm onwards (finale night)

Depending on casting for the witches you may only be required to perform for selected performances, but be prepared to be available for all the dates listed.

PLEASE NOTE this is not a paid opportunity. It is a once in a lifetime chance for local performers to raise their ambitions and be part of a professional production and make history being part of Theatre Severn’s first production.
